Spektrum glasses recently got in touch and asked if I'd like to try out there Blue Light blocking glasses. As a self employed photographer and blogger, I spend FAR too much time around blue light emitting devices so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to review their range of glasses.

Spektrum offer two main ranges of the blue light blocking glasses - 50% blocking and 99% blocking. The 'Artist' glasses are from their 50% blocking range and the 'Elite' are from the 99% blocking range. What I like about the 'Artist' glasses especially is that they look super stylish, actually very similar to my prescription Hugo Boss glasses. This is something Spektrum did think of and their range of glasses have been made specifically to look like prescription glasses.

50% blocking glasses are aimed more at at people who need to block out blue light during the day such as students, office workers, phone users or potentially like me, self employed people who rely on computers. (That's quite specific but you get me) Where as the 99% blocking glasses are ideal for late night users which is when blue light has the strongest effect on our bodies. They do however tint your surroundings yellow which some people may find a little claustrophobic but they are perfect for people who are very blue light sensitive.

The glasses are super comfortable to wear and are very light in weight, meaning they are not weighty on the face. However as a fellow glasses wearer, maybe the actual pair of glasses weren't going to work the best for me as I do have quite a high prescription meaning I ended up wearing them over my existing glasses - spoiler alert this didn't really work well for me. But if and when I wear my contacts, I can fully take advantage of the glasses and the benefits you get from them. I do notice on days when I wear them, I sleep a LOT better. If you didn't know the light emitted from our devices is actually 'short-wavelength-enriched' meaning it has a higher concentration of blue light as opposed to natural light. Blue light affects the levels of melatonin (which is a sleep inducing hormone) our bodies produce more than any other wavelength, ultimately meaning you can find it harder to sleep.

The only thing that I feel would make the glasses better is if they could potentially put a prescription into the glasses. I am unsure if the Blue Light coating is something that can be worn a little more permanently so potentially this is why you are unable to do this. It may be something the company has not yet looked into but I do feel a lot more glasses wearers would buy into something like this. You can however in the mean time purchase a 'clip on' version of the blue light glasses through the website.
